Expand ribcage/chest
to help make the upper body appear larger and fuller
Don't be overly concerned with contracting the abs
bearing down on the abs results in losing some of the v-taper and upper body fullness due to dropping the expanded chest
Keep the head facing directly forward
Looking down or tilting the head back takes away from the aesthetic appearance of the physique
Control breathing
To avoid excessive movement in this ab area which takes away from effective presentation
Do not lean backwards
This will change the angle the judges see your physique. Judges are usually seated below competitors. Angling back reduces the appearance of size
Supinate wrists
to show more of a peak to biceps
Elevate elbows slightly above shoulder level
help bring out lats
Angle forearms so hands are about 4 inches from head (extended finger should just touch side of head if using closed fists)
flexes biceps more
Simulate pulling elbows downward like in a latpull
to help bring out lats more
Spread shoulders out and flare lats
to display as much of a v-taper to waist as possible
Position elbows slightly in front of chest
to help bring out the lats, elbows directly to the side flatten the appearance of the upper body
Females may elect to bend wrists back and display the pose with open hands
some feel this presents a more feminine pose
If Legs as in Front Relaxed Pose
Keep heels fairly close together
this helps maintain a symmetrical appearance. Wide upper torso, taper to waist, wider at quads, and taper again to lower legs
Angle toes outward
this rotates the quads some and make the upper legs look larger due to displaying more hamstring while still displaying the quads
Bend legs at knee a little
this displays a more natural appearance
Tense quads as if bearing down on the heels & thrust pelvis forward
this helps show definition in the quads
OR
If One Leg Extended
Angle toes outward on weight bearing leg
this rotates the quad some and make the upper leg look larger due to displaying more hamstring while still displaying the quad
Bend weight bearing leg at knee a little
this displays a more natural appearance
Tense quad on plant leg (weight bearing) as if bearing down on the heel
this helps show definition in the quad
Keep toes pointed down on extended leg and heel off the floor
to flex the calve
Bend extended leg
to show more curve in the hamstring
Imagine toes on extended leg are attached to the floor and simulate trying to lift the extended leg
to bring out more lines in the inner thigh
